What does resource management mean in an IAM context?
Resource management means centrally recording and structuring all resources worth protecting, such as groups, directories, mailboxes or SharePoint areas, and assigning a responsible business owner. It provides the organizational basis before approval or review processes can work effectively.
What is the difference between resource management and approval workflows?
Resource management defines the “what”: which resources exist and who is responsible for them. Approval workflows define the “how”: the actual approval process when someone requests access to one of these resources. Both building blocks work together, with resource management providing the foundation.
What is a resource owner?
A resource owner is the person with subject-matter responsibility for a specific resource, such as a department head responsible for a project group or a business unit lead responsible for a folder. They decide on access requests and confirm during recertifications whether existing access is still needed.
