When local IT is given too many global rights

Logistics companies often manage numerous locations, companies and user groups. In addition to employees, external service providers, drivers, guest accounts and technical accounts must be managed securely and transparently.

As structures have grown over time, local IT teams often receive extensive global permissions, even though they are only responsible for their own location. This not only makes it harder to maintain an overview, it also turns each individual site into a potential gateway into the entire company. At the same time, requirements for security, audits and recertifications continue to increase.

If access fails at one location or is revoked too late, operations can quickly come to a standstill, a risk many logistics companies cannot afford.

Use Case & Ressourcen

A new location, one hundred new accesses

A typical use case in logistics is the rapid integration of new locations or temporarily hired seasonal staff. A company opens a new site or expands its warehouse workforce at short notice. In both cases, employees need immediate access to the right systems, often only for a limited period. With FirstWare IDM-Portal, the responsible local IT coordinator creates the appropriate access rights directly, without having to work in the native directory service, while central IT retains control over roles, groups and policies.

Not every new colleague needs a full standard license: the IDM Portal assigns only the access that is actually required and automatically releases licenses that are no longer used. When a location is added through an acquisition or another is closed, entire user groups can be connected or removed in a structured way.

This reduces helpdesk effort and accelerates processes, while outdated access rights are prevented from remaining in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions about IAM & Identity Governance in logistics, secure identity management, transparent access processes and compliance with FirstWare IDM-Portal.

What is IAM for logistics companies?

IAM helps logistics companies manage identities and access rights across numerous locations and companies, from internal employees, drivers and external service providers to guest accounts and technical accounts.

Can access rights be delegated to locations?

Yes, and this is often what makes the biggest difference in logistics. Your local IT team handles access assignments for its own location, while central IT always retains control over policies and governance.

Can external service providers and guest accounts also be managed?

Yes. The IDM Portal supports internal employees, external partners, guest accounts as well as service and technical accounts.

How does the IDM Portal support audits and recertifications?

Access rights are documented transparently and can be regularly reviewed and recertified.

Is the solution suitable for companies with many locations?

Yes, that is exactly what FirstWare IDM-Portal was developed for. It flexibly supports location, role and company models, whether you manage ten or several hundred locations.
